Decide whether reading or reference work comes first

A reading app helps you consume an article; a reference library helps you connect it to a task. Compare the experience you need most. For scripts, lessons or project research, notes, folders and review reminders can matter more than a distraction-free article view.

Test the content formats in your queue

Try a representative article, a supported social post and a useful video. Decide which formats deserve one library and which should stay in a specialized reader. Moving links is straightforward compared with recreating highlighting, offline content and listening behavior across different products.

When keeping Instapaper makes sense

Stay with Instapaper if the focused reading experience and its listening features are your main reason to save articles. A research library does not have to replace a good reader.

Import an Instapaper CSV or bookmark HTML file

Savebase file import option: Instapaper

Dashboard imports of app exports, bookmark HTML files and text URL lists require Pro. Direct browser-bookmark import through the extension is available on Free and flattens the browser folder tree. Keep the original export and test a small batch: reused URLs can merge tags and folder memberships, and incoming non-empty notes can replace existing notes.

  1. 1

Request an export from Instapaper and retain the CSV or available bookmark HTML file.

  2. 2

Choose Instapaper in Savebase's import dialog and check the records shown in the preview.

  3. 3

Verify representative references and add project notes or reminders to the sources you plan to use.

An import of reference records does not guarantee that every highlight, offline article copy or listening preference is reproduced. Keep the original export for comparison.

JSON export includes active saved records and their notes, tags and folder names. It contains media URLs, not media files, and currently omits transcripts and automation settings.

Questions about Instapaper alternatives

Does Savebase include Instapaper's listening features?

Savebase is a library for saved posts and links, not an equivalent replacement for every article-reader or text-to-speech feature. Use Instapaper or another reader if listening is the central requirement, and choose Savebase for organizing references across content types.

Can Savebase import an Instapaper export?

Yes, on Pro. Instapaper is a supported import source, with CSV and bookmark HTML formats accepted. Review the preview and check a sample of imported records, keeping your original export because reading-specific data may not transfer as reference records.
