Savebase for Journalists

Bookmark manager for journalists

Keep the lead connected to its source.

Reporting produces a mix of leads, published statements and background reading. Savebase helps journalists organize that public research by story and verification status. Keep a note explaining what a source establishes, what remains unconfirmed and which follow-up it prompts, so a saved thread does not turn into an unattributed fact in the draft.

From save to useful reference

A workflow for journalists

Save selected text ↗

Keep a public statement and its source together

Select a relevant passage on a public webpage and save it as a highlight through the extension. Keep the source date, claim and verification status in its note. For public X, Bluesky, Threads or Truth Social discussions, Save Entire Thread captures the main post and available related data; check the original for missing replies and context before using the material in a story.

RSS subscriptions ↗

Maintain a focused beat reading queue

Subscribe to relevant publisher, agency or organization feeds where RSS or Atom is available. File incoming articles under a beat and source tag. This helps you revisit routine announcements without promising comprehensive monitoring of everything published about a topic.

Video transcripts ↗

Locate statements in public video sources

Request transcripts for supported saved videos so you can search a public interview or presentation. Return to the recording to confirm wording, speaker and context. A generated transcript is useful for finding a passage; it is not a substitute for quotation checking or source verification.

A small, annotated collection is a useful place to begin.

Savebase quick start →
  1. 1

Create a story folder and tags for lead, primary source and verified background.

  2. 2

Save public references with dates, claims and the next verification step in notes.

  3. 3

Review source status before drafting and check quotations against original recordings.

Keep your library useful as it grows.

Bring existing references through browser import or Pro file imports. Keep a portable record through JSON export.

JSON export includes active saved records and their notes, tags and folder names. It contains media URLs, not media files, and currently omits transcripts and automation settings.

Duplicate cleanup scans currently loaded posts, keeps the oldest record and permanently removes newer duplicates without merging their notes. Review the scan before confirming removal. See duplicate cleanup guidance.

Choose the plan for your workflow

Free includes any 2 of the 11 supported social platforms, up to 100 social posts, 5 folders and unlimited ordinary web links. Notes, manual tags, per-post reminders, JSON export and direct browser-bookmark import through the extension are included.

Pro unlocks all 11 social platforms, unlimited social posts and folders, dashboard file imports, on-demand AI Bulk Tagging, read-only ChatGPT/MCP access, Notion and Google Sheets sync, RSS, rules, webhooks, media backup and video transcripts.

Media backup must be enabled and successfully fetch eligible Instagram, Facebook, Threads or TikTok media. Request video transcripts when needed; new saves are not automatically transcribed.

Where Savebase fits in your work

Use Savebase for public research and leads. Sensitive sources, unpublished reporting and evidence handling belong in your newsroom's approved systems.

Common questions from journalists

Is Savebase a forensic evidence archive?

No. Eligible social media backup can preserve successfully fetched media, but Savebase does not provide a forensic capture or chain of custody. Use your newsroom's evidence procedures when a report requires authenticated, timestamped or legally defensible preservation.

Can I use transcripts as published quotations?

Use a transcript to locate the relevant passage, then check it against the original recording before quoting. Verify speaker identity and context through your reporting process. The saved video and your note should retain the trail back to the source.
